Just to be aware, that if I see this going on I'm not going to expose the 'Skorzeny' players, although I may ask a few Allied players to go and recce the situation to find out what's going on.

Great stuff... that sort of roleplaying is exactly what is required!

Excellent , my thoughts exactly . The briefing gives a big clue, and coupled with some knowledge of the film/battle it shouldn't be too hard to put 2 and 2 together ( with the odd prompt from the officers)

I would suggest having a simple password thing agreed at the US brief, that way the commandoes can be caught out in a historical sense as well as a game sense

Just a quickie - Major offered to provide a parachute to help mark the secret orders for game 2 , does anyone know if this is still on, if not has anyone a old large white sheet available to hang in the trees ?

I just had a chat with Major and he will supply a parachute...

He's currently cutting up bandages. We have so far got 150 18inch long bandages.

He's also done the 4 scarves for the MPs.

:)

Okay... Major just got back to me... the total is 155 bandages and 2 large white flags...

This then reminded me of an idea I had a short while ago...

How about we have a set piece...

Germans attacking Bastogne. They have the Yanks surrounded (etc). One german comes forward with a white flag asking for the surrender of the Yanks.

Steve shouts out "NUTS"!

What do you think?

That would require acting. Could I just shoot him instead?

Eurgh.

Excellent idea - I had thought about it ages ago and then forgot all about it . We'll do it ! Come and ask for your surrender , gives us the "nuts", then we explode Major's pyros---- job done !

I'll walk out to discuss the terms of YOUR surrender. ;)

Shout nuts as you read out your terms and shoot one of you and the other can drag off the injured person screaming for the artillery barrage!!

I'll tear back to our lines whilst Yith screams to our men to take cover, then the barrage can begin!!

Booom!

*I have a facsimile copy of the 'nuts' letter that was sent to US troops as a morale boost. It has the wording of the German terms of surrender in it. McAuliffe is reported to have initially said 'Fuck You' but this was later rephrased for the American press to 'Nuts'. His words in the press version were apparently 'Us surrender? NUTS!'

Love it!

I'll tear back to our lines whilst Yith screams to our men to take cover, then the barrage can begin!!

I was going to be videoing the barrage from up near where Major will be standing at this point... unless we can find someone else to do it.

Sheeesh, your all nuts!

At what point will this happen? Major isn't going to be hanging around in the gaming area, he'll be in the safezone.

By all means agree do do the nuts thing after Axis have done a good deal of attacking Bastogne (else why would we ask you to surrender) but why mix it with the barrage? After all, it is only a bit of a joke (and the joke is confused Germans wondering on the meaning of the message).

Gucci has just mentioned to me that he also has a parachute... He suggested something about a supply drop into Bastogne... Maybe associated with the medic drop?

Also he came up with the one... Its rather good as well... very "Enemy at the Gates"

I think you should add in a sniper on sniper objective for the morning as well-so both sides choose thier elite sniper and they have to eliminate the other-who ever killls who first completes the objective-nice fun one to add to the write up

Hehe, he wrote that for Rob!

Superb idea - would like it to run throughout the day though as I want to keep squads together. It will be impossible for them to do it as a lone sniper - too many people in the field for them to rove or get into possition for a one on one. But keep on the lookout and sieze the opportunity if it arises.

okay... quick heads up on the medic bag...

Just had a chat with someone and he's id'ed it as a "WWI RAMC Stretcher Bearer Sack" and rather rare.

Hence I will not be using it as an objective dumped under a load of pine needles in a wood in december! Sorry!

I'll bring an OD respirator bag or US ammo bag then, if you want?

sounds cool.

Failing that I have various bags that can be used that I'll bring along...

Though I found out some of those are quite rare as well...

For instance:
1903 Pattern Haversack
Home Guard Grenade Bag

I've got a spare breadbag with a strap to throw into the mix, and was planning on using my 37 pattern officers pack ( albeit in black) as the satchel containing the war plans for the invasion of Germany for the pm game .

Commanders map charts now done!
I have also done a mock-up of the famous 'St Vith / Malmedy' direction sign (with and without the 202 Ord Depot board) which I will wack up on the safezone verge. Won't play any part in the game but it will be good for chaps to have their photos taken next to. (Oh, yes, the sign will need proping up with a rifle!)
